A new year brings with it a new sense of wonder, purpose and resolve.
For IABC/San Diego, this means a stronger commitment to providing our members with the experiences and resources to support you and your career.
Check out our new 2020 Event Calendar, filled with relevant topics and connections over the next several months.
Join us for coffee and conversation at the first event of the year – Communications Resolutions SIG ( Special Interest Group) Meetup on January 29. Share your 2020 communication goals and strategize with other communication professionals on how to transform them into reality.
The highlight of the year is our 7th Annual Communicator of the Year (COTY) and Junior COTY Awards ceremony scheduled for May. Each award recognizes a fellow IABC member in the Greater San Diego Area who is a leader in the communications profession. We are accepting nominations from now through March 6th. Learn more about the awards and prior honorees and submit your nomination as soon as possible.
The New Year also brings new openings on our Board and a new opportunity for you to achieve some of your 2020 communication goals. How does working on a board help you? You can expand your network, take on a leadership role, apply your skills and learn new ones — all while volunteering to support fellow professional communicators.
What motivates you to succeed? Share your thoughts and/or photos with us and connect with other San Diego Members via social media In fact, if you’ve not yet signed up to follow us on social media, please do so and join the San Diego conversation.
May you shine brilliantly in 2020!

For many communicators, work is all about the craft of producing articles, posts, videos and other content. Moving into the leadership ranks, however, requires more than great tactical skills and, in fact, more than great strategic planning capabilities. Senior-level communicators regularly advise and coach the company’s executives (and others) on how to communicate effectively, both in general and about specific issues.
This relationship works both ways: The more you can help your company’s leaders achieve their objectives through effective communication, the more trusted and indispensable you will become.
In episode 52 of the “Circle of Fellows” broadcast, hosted by Shel Holtz, four IABC Fellows discussed how to acquire coaching skills and apply them with company leaders. IABC Fellows participating in the discussion included Amanda Hamilton-Attwell, Jim Lukaszewski, Jim Shaffer, and Angela Sinickas.
