President: Kate Griffin (nee Hardman), ABC
Senior Manager, Employee Communications, Qualcomm
Kate Griffin is a senior manager of employee communications at Qualcomm, where she is the communications lead for Qualcomm’s corporate functions and emerging businesses. She also has oversight for Qualcomm’s news intranet, and strategic and leadership communication initiatives. Prior to joining Qualcomm, Kate worked for Sony Electronics and Trident Communications, a global agency specializing in internal communications. Over the course of her career, Kate has managed a diverse range of strategic, change management, creative and editorial initiatives. In 2010, she became an Accredited Business Communicator. She is the winner of two Gold Quill and two Silver Quill awards, and in 2013, was named to San Diego Metro’s 40 under 40. This is Kate’s second stint as President of IABC/San Diego, having led the chapter during the 2013-14 board year when it won Mid-Sized Chapter of the Year at IABC’s Chapter Management Awards. She has served on the San Diego board for the past eight years, and just completed two years as a Chapter Advocate on IABC’s Pacific Plains Regional Board. President-Elect: Robynn Rockstad-Rex
Robynn Rockstad-Rex works on a variety of organizational change programs at Qualcomm as part of the Employee Communications & Engagement team. She recently moved to San Diego from Paris, France, where she was the Director of Communications and Programs for the International Brain Research Organization, where she managed events, member communications, public relations and grant programs for the world’s largest neuroscientist member organization. Previously, she was the worldwide Director of Communications for the Automation Business of AREVA T&D (now GE), which was also headquartered in Paris. Robynn graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with a B.A. in Communications and earned a Certificate in Integrated Marketing Communications from the University of Washington. Past President: Anna Davison
Vice President, Corporate Communications and Investor Relations, Bridgepoint Education
Anna Davison is Vice President of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations for Bridgepoint Education. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing public and media relations, employee communications, and investor relations, as well as developing an enterprise communication strategy and contributing to the organizational strategic planning process. Anna’s experience includes extensive work in strategic communications, public relations, media campaigns, brand messaging, executive consulting, crisis communications, social media, and intranet management. VP, Programming & Events: Sarah Bilyeu
SVP, Community Relations and Business Development, San Diego County Credit Union
Sarah Bilyeu is the Senior Vice President of Community Relations and Business Development at San Diego County Credit Union. In this role, she is responsible for defining and implementing the organization’s overall community relations and business development strategy. This includes overseeing the coordination of strategic relationships with local companies and community organizations and SDCCU’s more than 35 branch locations in San Diego, Riverside and Orange counties. Previously, she was the Communications Specialist at Bridgepoint Education, where she was responsible for developing and managing multiple complex internal and external communications initiatives to support key business goals. She led the internal communication initiative supporting the national brand advertising campaign for one of Bridgepoint’s academic institutions, Ashford University, which won her a 2013 IABC Gold Quill Award for Brand Communications. Bilyeu also served on the Corporate Communications team at The UPS Store and worked as a News Reporter, Producer and Editor for San Diego’s KOGO AM 600. An avid volunteer, she served five years managing Public Relations efforts for Fruit of the Soul, an annual event benefiting Monarch School and A Reason to Survive. Bilyeu holds a BA in Journalism and Political Science from San Diego State University and an MBA in Marketing from Ashford University. VP, Membership: Sheila Garcia
Communications Manager, Cox Communications
Sheila Garcia is a communications manager for Cox Communications. In this role, she is responsible for internal communications for employees in California. Sheila develops and implements communications strategies and manages a wide variety of communications tools to support open communication throughout the organization. Prior to working at Cox Communications, Sheila was a senior Communications officer for the San Diego County Employees Retirement Association and a Marketing Coordinator at the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System. She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Communication from UCSD and SDSU, respectively. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her husband and children, drinking coffee and eating chocolate.
Outgoing – VP, Marketing/Social Media: Heidi Everly
Marketing Manager, AMN Healthcare
Heidi Everly is a Marketing Manager for AMN Healthcare. In this role, she is responsible for supporting service lines, creating direct marketing campaigns and managing digital and offline lead generation programs. Previously, she was the Senior Corporate Communications Specialist at AMN, responsible for managing the company’s intranet, writing a variety of internal and external communications, and developing engaging social media content. Heidi has loved to write since she was a little girl, when she’d ask her mom to give her a topic so that she could write a poem about it. Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband, two daughters and two dogs, accidentally coming up with new recipes and the occasional night out with her best friends.
VP, Communications: Liz Neely
Senior Employee Communications Specialist, Qualcomm
Liz Neely is a Senior Employee Communications Specialist at Qualcomm, where her responsibilities include writing articles, editing copy and managing the editorial calendar for the company’s internal daily news site, as well as providing communications support to various enterprise and business initiatives. Prior to joining Qualcomm in 2012, Liz worked as an investigator for firms specializing in complex civil litigation, including securities fraud, antitrust and consumer fraud class actions. Liz’s background is primarily in journalism, and she spent more than a decade as a reporter writing stories for online and print publications including The San Diego Union Tribune, The Ventura County Star and an electronics industry trade publication based in Silicon Valley. She holds a BA in Journalism and History from Humboldt State University. She also attended the University of Minnesota and has a professional certificate in digital and social media from SDSU’s College of Extended Studies. Outside of work, Liz enjoys traveling, listening to live music and rooting for the winning-challenged Padres.
VP, Finance: Jan McGinn
Marketing Project Manager
With a broad background in marketing, communications, human resources and operations, Jan McGinn understands how to connect a company’s message to its audience. Previously at ICW Group, a San Diego-based insurance carrier, she managed large-scale projects, including launching a new brand, promotional campaigns and events. Prior to that, she managed Human Resources, with an emphasis on benefits and internal communications. Jan earned a B.S. in Human Resources from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and has also earned the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation. An avid community supporter, she volunteers for Boy Scouts and within the Scripps Ranch community. On the weekends, she enjoys camping, cycling and hiking with her husband.
VP, Administration: Laura Harvey
Laura Harvey is the internal communications and human resources director for San Diego Special Events, a hospitality, catering and event production company in North County, where she leads the HR team and administers employee communications to the company’s desk and non-desk workforce. Prior to this role, Laura was the editor of Daily Word® magazine, the second highest circulating spiritual print magazine in the US (circ. 1 million). Published by Unity for more than 85 years, Daily Word reaches readers throughout the world and is translated into 13 languages. As editor, Laura led the production of the bi-monthly magazine, directed its social media presence, and served as the publication’s representative. Laura is also an occasional blogger for HuffPost contributing articles on mindful living and she freelances as a writer, editor and social media marketer for clients in a variety of industries. Laura has a Bachelor of Liberal Arts with a Communications minor from the University of Kansas City, Missouri. Outside of work, Laura loves hiking, traveling and spending time with her rescue dog Charlie.
Director, Web Content: Chantal Ramirez
Online Marketing Specialist at JC Resorts
Chantal is currently working for JC Resorts on supporting online marketing initiatives and web updates, planning and managing social media campaigns, managing JC Resorts’ online reputation listings, and creating and launching brand email campaigns. Prior to working at JC Resorts, Chantal was a PR Specialist at Crowdfund Mafia, where her responsibilities included crafting media lists, monitoring PR activity and facilitating media relations. In her time at Crowdfund Mafia, she also helped with campaign management where she oversaw different aspects of project management including PR, web design, client relations, and online marketing. Previously, she served as a Public Relations Associate at Fidelitas Development where she helped plan and execute marketing strategies, social media outreach, and content development. She has a bachelor in Journalism with an emphasis in Media Studies from San Diego State University. In her spare time, Chantal enjoys exercising, traveling, the outdoors, and listening to live music.
Senior Strategy Management Consultant, Booz Allen Hamilton
Erica B. Nettles is a senior strategy management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton. She currently serves on the company’s community partnership team and serves as chair of the African-American forum. Recently, she was selected as one of 60 women worldwide to participate in the Executive Program for Women Leaders at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. The seasoned consultant has a background in politics, working on Capitol Hill and serving as a political producer for a major news network. As a journalist, she has contributed to numerous outlets, which include Time Warner, CBS and NBC News. Nettles was selected as a New York Times Fellow at U.C. Berkeley for an intensive institute on immigration. Erica is a member of the Junior League, Women in Defense, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Erica regularly volunteers with a Washington, D.C.- based organization called IMPACT, which engages young minority professionals between the ages of 18 and 40.
Director, Membership: Katie Knott
Katie Knott is the Employee Communications Specialist at Hologic, a leading global healthcare and diagnostics company. In this role, she is responsible for driving internal global corporate communications strategy designed to enhance employee engagement across locations. Key areas of responsibility include intranet management, executive leadership communications, content development, change management and community relations initiatives. Prior to joining Hologic, Katie served as Senior Corporate Communications Specialist at AMN Healthcare where she was responsible for executing strategic internal and external communications initiatives designed to enhance thought leadership and positive brand recognition. She began her career in New York City with a variety of roles in public relations and corporate communications. Katie has a BA in Communications from Fordham University and is currently pursuing an MBA at the University of San Diego. Outside of work, she can usually be found outdoors exploring San Diego, training for a marathon or spending time with family and friends.
Director of Special Interest Groups: Dave Flynn
Marketing and Communications Manager, Scripps Health
Dave Flynn is a corporate communications manager with Scripps Health. Among his various duties, Dave provides support and oversight for the company’s print and e-publications to its 15,000 employees. Additionally, he is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communications around the organization’s strategic objectives. Prior to his tenure with Scripps, Dave worked in television as a writer, producer and on-air broadcaster. He earned a B.A. in Communication Design from Chico State University. Outside of work, Dave enjoys watching the Padres, reading and spending time with friends and family.

- The Vice President of Marketing/Social Media is responsible for developing and
implementing a marketing and social media strategy to elevate the IABC brand and
awareness in San Diego.
- Sends monthly calendar of events to local media
- Prepares media releases to promote upcoming events
- Nurtures relationships with local media and explores opportunities to provide articles,
expertise where appropriate
- Maintains media contact list and accurate records of activities
- Promotes monthly professional development programs via social media platforms
and through other vehicles to members and potential members
- Facilitates the creation, production, scheduling and distribution of social media
- Manages the chapter’s social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn,
Pinterest, YouTube and Instagram
- Develops social media executions, including member news, chapter news and
events, and cross-promotional opportunities
- Prepares and manages budget for social media activities
- Trains successor
Director of Brand/Design
- The Director of Brand oversees the artistic design of all marketing collateral.
- Work with the VP of Social Media and VP of General Communications to ensure brand materials are consistent and visually appealing across all communications.
- Creates and develops promotional material for IABC events and promotions across all channels, including web, social, email and print.
- Creates custom illustrations and other graphic elements.
- Develops design solutions to elevate awareness of IABC/San Diego initiatives.
- Recruits and trains successor
Director of Sponsorships and Development
- Solicits supplemental revenue for the chapter through sponsorships, in-kind donations, or value-adds for members
- Develops sponsorship plan that aligns with our annual programming needs and includes goals and communication tactics
- Develops customized proposals for prospective sponsors
- Ensures sponsorship agreements are appropriately executed and follows IABC guidelines
- Manages sponsor relationships and tracks deliverables (payments/provision of services etc.)
- Helps recruit and train successor
