June 2013 President’s Letter – A Look Back, A Look Ahead

This month marks the end of our board term. It has been an honor and privilege serving as president of IABC/San Diego; I have enjoyed connecting with so many of you along the way. Angie_RobertI am excited to see where the chapter will go under Kate Hardman’s leadership starting next month. She already has many wonderful plans in the works.

So what does the board do all year long? Here are some stats from this past year:

  • Coordinated 10 events, including two dine arounds, one speed networking co-hosted with other organizations, one breakfast event, one members-only happy hour mixer, and five lunch events
  • Hosted 350 attendees at various events
  • Brought in profit from every event
  • Created new types of events this year, including the first breakfast professional development event, first speed networking, first partnership with other orgs, and first members only hosted event
  • Two newly accredited members
  • Fourteen current ABCs
  • Three prospective ABC candidates; one who will take the exam on July 27
  • Sent 35 member emails
  • Sent 12 newsletters (including this one)
  • 3,944 website hits, which is up 31.4% from prior year
  • 2,624 new website visitor hits, which is up 61.2% from prior year
  • Re-launch of the BeHeard San Diego blog
  • We added job listings on the website, as well as co-branding opportunities with other like organizations
  • We gained 30 new members and had a 26 percent growth in new members from the previous year
  • We hosted four new member coffees
  • We won mid-sized chapter of the year for all of IABC
  • We won three chapter management awards in communication, leadership development and finance
  • Two members attended Leadership Institute, including Jan McGinn who won the Pacific Plains Region (PPR) scholarship
  • Two members attended two different PPR regional conferences
  • Managed judging for the Kansas City Quills with two judging sessions for 15 entries
  • Participated in Mingle Bells
  • Sent eight event advisories and one news release
  • Submitted chapter leaders for three different industry or local awards competitions
  • Held twelve monthly president council meetings
  • Held twelve monthly board meetings
  • Twelve board meeting minutes recorded and posted
  • Twenty posts in the board center
  • Six board rosters created and posted (every other month)

It has been quite a year! A big thank you to our 17 dedicated board members for all of their hard work and dedicated volunteer hours.
