The biggest communications challenge I’ve faced …
Coming to the table with a finalized communications plan and having it red-lined by multiple stakeholders with different agendas. Working with stakeholders can be a tiring process, especially during the approval process. It’s important to get feedback and buy-in early. Have a plan in place to work with hard resistors.

My favorite communications memory is …
Working on behalf of NBC during the Obama era and acting as network pool lead while riding in the presidential motorcade (reporting trip events, quotes to other networks).

The most important communications or professional lesson I’ve learned is …
The power of leverage. In my profession, clients need to get more done with less time and resources. With leverage, you can identify knowledge, money, and time through cross-collaboration to create win-win solutions. It’s an easy-to-use tool that can be applied in projects with multiple stakeholders and varying agendas.

The trade publication Adweek is full of the best advertising ideas from Fortune 500 companies. With each ad, there is a messaging strategy. From a communications perspective, you can learn the strategy, metrics, and market research a company has used to develop the perfect ad to target a specific demographic, and if it worked. You can also learn about exciting trends that can capture the attention of consumers.
