“Just go with your gut and go for what you really want to do” is Lauren’s advice to recent grads and junior communicators looking to make a career leap.
Lauren took her own advice a few months ago when she transitioned into her new role as Corporate Communications Specialist at Bridgepoint Education—whose mission is to provide quality, innovative education and technology services to enrich lives. In this role, she is responsible for internal communications and working with many different departments to get their message across the organization, including Bridgepoint’s two universities, Ashford University and University of the Rockies.
Previously, Lauren served as Sales and Marketing Coordinator for SKINS, a sportswear manufacturer, and she has held various public relations and marketing roles with The Rock Church, San Diego Coastkeeper and Akili Capital.
“My entire background was in marketing, so going into communications was a little scary but I am really glad I did it,” Lauren says. “I love writing and it’s awesome to be able to make a living doing what I love.”
Lauren relishes the opportunity to find new ways to communicate, whether it’s rewriting copy or turning information into an infographic to make it more appealing and eye-catching.
“Don’t be afraid to try something totally new,” she says.
Lauren has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing and an MBA from Point Loma Nazarene University.
