When I volunteered to take on the president’s role at IABC/San Diego last July, I didn’t realize my entire term would be virtual. No in-person board meetings and all networking and professional development events relegated to Zoom. A daunting year, but one we were able to overcome together, thanks to a connected membership and a close-knit board of directors.
We kept you engaged with a series of events featuring diverse communication disciplines. From crisis management, communications strategy and unconscious bias to brand, storytelling, video presentation and coming later this month – a primer on financial communications.
San Diego’s eighth annual Communicator of the Year celebration remained one of our best attended events. This year we acknowledged Sarah Bilyeu for her strategic communication and community engagement efforts.
Thanks to our virtual approach, we were able to entice engaging speakers from San Diego, California, Minneapolis and even Australia. On the bright side, you were able to attend more events without worrying about traffic and other commitments.
I hope you appreciated the steady stream of communications featuring a mix of monthly newsletters, email and social media campaigns. We were also able to refresh the IABC/San Diego website enabling us to showcase people, news and events in a more modern and visually appealing way.
Credit for the success of the San Diego chapter goes to our 2020/2021 board members. I am grateful for the endless hours they volunteered and their unwavering support of our chapter. Starting in July, I will continue to serve as past president and look forward to welcoming the new board leadership. I hope you will remain engaged, join the board and lead our chapter on its onward journey.
