Co-President’s Message – September 2022

Fall is here and so is your new IABC San Diego leadership team!

We’re excited to step up as chapter Co-Presidents and continue building on the foundation set before us. As communications professionals who have both benefited from IABC’s value, we’re keen to ensure that our chapter remains strong, its legacy is long and you (our members!) find immense value in and from IABC.

Our Objectives

Although our term is starting late, we’ve committed to serving as Co-Presidents for the next 21 months. Doing so will provide stability as we set out to achieve three main objectives:

  1. Reinvigorate our membership base so that you – and the many other communicators in the area – find value in and appreciate the uniqueness of IABC. This includes identifying opportunities for enrolling new members and working with the other local communications associations to expand our reach.
  1. Offer programs and networking opportunities that engage current and lapsed members. Taking a cue from last year’s membership survey, our goal is to provide a balance of in-person and virtual events throughout San Diego County. If, and when, possible, recordings will be provided.
  1. Prepare other members for future board leadership roles. We aim to build a pipeline of strong, committed leaders so our chapter can thrive now and for future generations of communicators. In support, our November member event will be a professional development opportunity for all of us to learn what it means to be part of a board of directors. More information is coming soon.

IABC SD Board of Directors

To allow us to focus on the objectives above, we’ve streamlined the Board to include only critical roles. Each will remain at a year commitment, though we welcome anyone who wants to stay another term.

Please join us in welcoming the three Vice Presidents to their new roles for the remainder of the 2022-23 board term:

Sarah Bilyeau, VP, Programming
Alison Ricker, VP Membership
Emilie Vecchio, VP, Communications

Each VP has volunteers to help with key aspects of their responsibilities. If you would like to help in any of these areas, we encourage you to reach out to the respective VP.

Additionally, the VP, Administration (Secretary and Finance) is open to anyone interested. This role can be filled by any member – if you’re new or seasoned, if you’ve been on a board before or not. If interested, please reach out to us to learn more.

We have exciting plans for the last few months of 2022! Please keep an eye out for future emails, stay tuned to the IABC SD website, LinkedIn (business page and group) and Facebook, and get ready to network and expand your professional knowledge and skillset.

We look forward to seeing you at our October networking event during which we will share more about our chapter’s future. We always welcome your feedback so drop us an email using the links below!
