Event Archive: Develop a Social Media Policy for Your Company – Feb 20, 2013

On February 7, 2013, the Today Show aired a segment on Cyber-slacking. According to the latest research, some 60% to 80% of employees spend an inordinate amount of time surfing the Internet for personal reasons. With social media playing such an integral part of business, companies must allow certain use of online resources, especially for departments who interact with media and with the public, such as Corporate Communications, Marketing, Investor Relations, Public Relations and others. However, how does a company set guidelines to maintain productivity yet still use the power of social media for business? Also, how can business communicators assist their organizations by crafting such a policy?

Pat Rarus, MS, principal of Marcom Consulting Group, will share various social media guidelines and policies. In particular, she will share a recent social media policy with input from Brad Whitworth, ABC, senior communications manager for Cisco in Silicon Valley.
