IABC San Diego Encourages USD Students to Be Heard

In my short time since moving back to San Diego, serving on the IABC-SD Board has already started paying dividends.  Not only has this role helped me to meet and connect with a great network of talented IABC individuals but it also has given me a chance to give back to my alma mater (University of San Diego) through student outreach efforts.

By generating support from USD’s Communication Studies and Business-Marketing faculty, these efforts have led to some exciting future developments to engage with USD students.  It energizes me to help students who are looking to explore the job possibilities within their major or how to land that first job or internship in either PR, corporate communications or marketing.  I believe that IABC-SD is that mentoring and professional development resource that has been missing for Communication Studies students.

Looking back when I was a USD student about to graduate, I never had a chance to take advantage of these invaluable networking and mentoring opportunities with professionals in the community.  I wish had.  Our organization has some amazing professionals in diverse roles that USD students can identify with and essentially tap into.  Whether it is needing guidance about a particular career path or a mentoring opportunity, students who GET INVOLVED can quickly realize the value of an IABC-SD student membership and hopefully start an official student chapter.

On Monday, March 11 from 6 to 7 p.m., IABC-SD is proud to host its first student outreach event on USD’s campus at the Manchester Conference Center (Room 206A). If you are a current USD student interested in learning more or an IABC-SD member and a USD alum, we would invite you to come check us out. Feel free to also take a look at some of our many member benefits which will also be discussed at our meeting on March 11th.
