January 2014 – President’s Letter

As 2014 gets into full swing, I wanted to share a quote I came across recently:

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.” —Neil Gaiman

These are great words to live by. We all fall into the trap of setting New Year’s resolutions that are impossible to keep. But as long as we are doing things that break the status quo, we are making progress.

At IABC/San Diego, we hope to help you advance professionally and personally through the networking and development opportunities we offer.

Join us on Jan. 23 to make new connections at our Dine Around events. It’s a great way to meet other communicators, build your network and enjoy great food and restaurant week prices.

On Jan. 31, we’re offering independent communicators, or those interested in freelancing, the chance to meet up, share best practices, discuss challenges and find potential collaborators at our next Special Interest Group event.

If you’d like to help others progress, or are looking for guidance, there’s still time to register your interest in our mentorship program.

This month, we’ll be busy finalizing our upcoming programs. Make sure you share your feedback with us via our member survey to ensure we are meeting your needs as a professional organization.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and productive 2014,
