Last month I went to IABC’s World Conference in New York City. It’s always motivating to hear new ideas, learn from others’ successes and reconnect with the “international” in IABC through the members and chapter leaders attending from around the world.

At the conference, new IABC Chair Robin McCasland referred to the IABC chapters as being the “heart and soul” of the organization, and I have to agree.  I’m thrilled and honored to be president of such a vibrant chapter that really does represent IABC in this way.

For the new board term we have 22 dedicated board members (meet them here) who are volunteering their time to make IABC/San Diego even better for our members.  We’re already hard at work. We’ve been listening to your feedback and are making some changes to provide more opportunities to learn and connect.

We’re shaking up our professional development program to give you more varied topics, timing and locations. We’ll be adding more networking and social events to our calendar to help you make the most of your IABC connections. And I’m also excited to be introducing a new webinar series “Member Talks,” where you’ll be able to learn from some of our chapter’s finest communicators. Sign up for our first session on Aug. 7.

For those who are looking to progress to the next step of their career, we’re putting a focus on providing resources to help you achieve your goals. Through career planning, mentorship, interest groups and accreditation/certification, you can count on IABC to help you succeed.  And, as we support our professional members, we are also working hard to foster the next generation of communicators through our new student chapter at USD.

IABC/San Diego is offering more than ever, and we hope you’ll see the added value in your membership. IABC is an organization run by its members for its members, so if you have ideas or suggestions, we want to hear them!  Contact me or any of the board members to share your feedback or learn more about our programs.
