Spring is here, and although we lose that initial hour of sleep, I love the lighter evenings. It feels like there are more hours in the day. Good thing too, because the board and I have been working hard to bring you some great events over the next few months.

I’m thrilled that on March 20, IABC/San Diego members will be giving back to the community at our Gift of Communication event. We are teaming up with United Way to help seven local non-profits overcome their communication challenges. It’s a program that has been running at IABC for several years and I’m excited to bring it to our chapter. I hope you’ll join us in donating your skills. Registration is free.

I’m also very pleased to announce that Cason Lane, ABC, has been named our inaugural IABC/San Diego Communicator of the Year. The award recognizes a greater San Diego area-based leader who demonstrates strategic excellence in communication and serves as an outstanding example to others through their quality of work and contributions to the communications profession. Cason is worthy winner and we are grateful to have him as a member of our chapter. Stay tuned for details about a special event in April to honor Cason.

Also in April, Annette Martell, ABC, MC, IABC Fellow, is coming to San Diego. On April 11 she will be sharing her vast experience at a professional development event titled “The Gale Force Winds of Change: The Communicator’s Crucial Role in Change Management.” The event will leave us better prepared to navigate anything from tactical changes to processes or enterprise-wide business transformations. Register now to secure your spot.

And, if you’re looking to connect with your peers, we have two Special Interest Group meetings coming up. Independent communicators, or those interested in going independent can join a meet-up on April 16. And those with a focus on internal/employee communications can make connections at our first meeting on April 18.

Finally, those who took our Member Survey, indicated that internal communications is a topic of interest for professional development. We’d love to hear more about what you’re looking for so we can make sure we’re meeting your needs. Take this quick survey to share your feedback.

I hope to connect with you soon.
