“Every single thing that has ever happened in your life is preparing you for a moment that is yet to come.” – Unknown
When I’m not working, you could find me …
Remodeling my house, driving my kiddos to their many activities, volunteering (IABC, my kid’s school or Girl Scouts) or drinking wine!
Three words that best describe me:
Authentic, open minded, passionate.
My Life in Communications
The biggest communications challenge I’ve faced …
Communicating with very different subcultures including acquired organizations and employees at customer facilities. This can be particularly challenging when the newly-acquired leadership isn’t entirely on board with your work. But breaking into those teams to become one of them is also one of the most rewarding experiences as well.
My favorite communications memory is …
Hiring employees who had diverse professional backgrounds, helping them acclimate into the organization and solidify their places in the profession, and watching them grow and take on new challenges. Also learning from them along the way!
The most important communications or professional lesson I’ve learned is …
You will be successful if you’re adaptable. Always be learning something new. Push yourself. Be uncomfortable. Take risks. Fail at some things because ultimately failures lead you to success!
Resources that I really find useful and recommend to other communicators are …
I’m currently obsessed with Twitter chats. IABC’s #CommChat happens every Wednesday at 9 a.m. Pacific time. It touches on a different topic every week—everything from building your professional brand to trends in PR. It’s a great place to share your ideas, pick up some advice and meet new people. I highly recommend it!
The most valuable thing about my membership with IABC is …
Forming new relationships and adding another dimension to already established friendships. There are so many interesting and inspiring people within IABC. And there’s such value in giving of yourself. In doing so, you can’t help but to learn and grow. From my experience, you always gain more than you are ever able to give.
You should know this about me …
I love ancestry, collecting pieces that my relatives have used during their lifetimes, family photography and documenting my family’s story.
