Meet Laura Chon

Laura is a Senior Director of Global Marketing and Corporate Communications at Cubic Corporation. Her initiative and efforts building the external and internal communications teams helped gain her attention from Cubic leadership and catapult her career.

Laura Chon’s persistence and valuable contributions to Cubic Corporation, as well as her timing, heped her rise through the ranks and catapult her career in corporate communications. With 15 years of experience in public relations and marketing—including eight years at an agency in Korea—Laura joined Cubic in 2015 as Corporate Communications Specialist. Three promotions later, Laura is now the Senior Director of Global Marketing and Corporate Communications.

Laura oversees all internal and external communications, which entails public relations outreach and marketing globally across three business lines, for Cubic—a technology-driven, market-leading provider of integrated solutions that increase situational understanding for transportation, defense and training customers worldwide to improve military effectiveness and operational readiness.

Laura’s initiative and ability to build the external communications, and ultimately the Corporate Communications team, helped gain her attention from Cubic leadership. By building relationships and networks with reporters and establishing Cubic as a reliable resource for thought leadership within the industry, she helped the company attract media coverage and brand awareness. These activities provided tangible results, bringing notoriety to the organization and strengthening Cubic’s position as a defense leader. The recognition also positively impacted Cubic’s company culture, and her team is now highly valued within the organization.

Laura looks for three characteristics when hiring people to join her team: reliability/trust, creativity/innovation and passion. The ability to continually learn and take constructive feedback is imperative for growth within your career, Laura says.

“If you are not teachable, then you are not someone who can manage someone below you,” she says.

Laura has a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of California, San Diego.
