When I’m not working, you could find me…
Spending time with my husband, two young children and furry four-legged best friend. We like to surf, build sandcastles, go to dog beach, camp, hike, bike ride and explore all the awesome places San Diego has to offer. I also like to going to concerts with my two best friends of 20+ years.

My Life in Communications
The biggest communications challenge I have faced…
When there is no clear communication or project plan put into place. Every project I have worked on that does not have a clear plan put together for the team, is unorganized, ends up being a fire drill and not as well put together as it could have been.
My favorite communications memory is…
Launching a program in which I had to assign action items to senior management who were above me. Telling senior management what to do instead of just reporting on what I do was a whole new experience for me. As a newly promoted supervisor at that time, it took me a little bit to gain the confidence to do so. I am very thankful for the mentors I had to help me gain the confidence.
The most important communications or professional lesson I’ve learned is…
Understanding every project assigned to me is a great learning experience. I have loved working on some projects and not so much on others. However, each project taught me something I didn’t know when I started.
Resources that I really find useful and recommend to other communicators are…
Microsoft Project (I said I was organized didn’t I?). When I was first strongly encouraged to learn the program, I was a bit resistant. I thought outlining the action items on paper was cumbersome and doing twice the work. I would have rather just completed the task. However, having launched several programs using Project, I learned it really kept me on track and gave the team clear direction on what I need from them. No one could say they didn’t know what they were supposed to do and when. Now I use Project all the time and encouraged my new manager to get it for our teams strategic communications plans.
The most valuable thing about my membership with IABC is…
I have not been able to take full advantage of IABC yet since I just joined two months ago, but I am looking forward to all the networking and learning opportunities and getting involved.
You should know this about me…
I see life as a constant learning experience. I try to learn something new everyday or remind myself of lessons past whether it’s at work, in a classroom, from my two young children, from traveling or just living life.
