Favorite Quote:
“If thou didst ever hold me in thy heart,
Absent thee from felicity awhile,
And in this harsh world draw thy breath in pain,
To tell my story.”

– William Shakespeare, Hamlet 5.2

Three words that best describe me:
Creative, passionate, sincere.

When I’m not working, you could find me…
Reading or writing—preferably under a sizzling sun—at the pool or on the beach.

My Life in Communications

The biggest communications challenge I have faced…
Being deployed to Iraq in early 2004 without all of the equipment I needed to do my job.  So . . . I taught my Marines (in the Communications platoon) another way to communicate: we achieved our missions through professional networking and the barter system.

My favorite communications memory is…
I don’t have a favorite. But if I did, it would have to be my Iraq 2004 deployment. The greater the challenge, the greater the thrill when achievement is realized!

The most important communications or professional lesson I’ve learned is…
Listen before you think. Think before you speak. Then—and only then—articulate your intended meaning with sincerity and verve.

Resources that I really find useful and recommend to other communicators are…
There is a treasure trove of resources on both the San Diego IABC website and the parent IABC website. I refer to both sites pretty regularly now. Also, the IABC, IABC San Diego, and Corporate Communications & Reputation professional groups on Linked In have interesting and informative discussions.

The most valuable thing about my membership with IABC is…
IABC San Diego members are among the most valuable resources we collectively have. This group has some of the most talented, dedicated, and dynamic people I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. I have been awed by this community of professionals, who not only make themselves available, but are actually eager to provide professional assistance to a fellow member at every opportunity. I’m a newbie to the association, and already this membership has exceeded my expectations. I look forward to my development and growth in the organization.

You should know this about me…
I think San Diego weather is a bit chilly . . . Have you ever been to Florida in mid-July? Now, that’s my kind of summer! I’m writing a novel and my favorite snack is a banana with almond butter.
