October 22 – Members-Only Event: Promoting an Emerging Blue Economy and San Diego’s Blue Tech Bay

While not many people have heard about the Blue Economy, it’s a thriving and emerging industry associated with the sustainable use of ocean resources to grow our economy, create jobs, and improve livelihoods, while also protecting and improving the health of our ocean and its ecosystems. The Port of San Diego is a longtime champion of and leader in the Blue Economy. Jenifer Barsell and Brianne Page from the Port will showcase some of the communication challenges associated with this under the radar industry and how they have leveraged partnerships and utilized communications strategies to promote it and brand San Diego’s Blue Tech Bay.

About the Speakers

Jenifer Barsell
Director, Marketing and Communications
Port of San Diego

Jenifer Barsell is the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Port of San Diego. She has over 20 years’ experience in the marketing and communications field, working mostly in the sports and government industries. Jenifer joined the Port in 2016 and since that time has led an organizational rebrand, website redesign and launched several award-winning marketing and communications outreach campaigns.

Prior to her stint at the Port, Jenifer worked for the University of Washington Athletics Department overseeing the marketing, game presentation and fan engagement for the Huskies’ 22 intercollegiate sports. Her career also includes over 13 years working in professional baseball, including two years at Major League Baseball in New York City working on the digital side of the business and over 11 years leading the marketing efforts for the San Diego Padres.

The San Diego native holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from California State University, Chico.

Brianne Mundy Page
Public Information Officer
Port of San Diego

Brianne Mundy Page is a communications and public relations professional with nearly 20 years of experience. As the Port of San Diego’s Public Information Officer, she promotes the many ways the Port serves the region and its visitors on and around San Diego Bay through maritime, environmental stewardship, water and land recreation, tourism, and public safety.

Prior to joining the Port of San Diego, Brianne worked for Donate Life California, the state organ, eye, and tissue donor registry, a cause close to her heart as her father saved and healed more than 50 people as a tissue donor upon his death in 2009. Before that, she worked as a television news producer for ten years in San Diego and in her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa.

Brianne holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Iowa State University where she majored in journalism and mass communications with an emphasis in electronic media studies and minored in English.
