I hope you are enjoying your summer! As I move into the presidency role at IABC/San Diego, I keep thinking of all the good things that come from being part of a community.

Nearly four years ago, I moved to San Diego with no professional contacts here and – after working abroad for a decade – feeling a bit unsure about my next steps. Joining IABC/San Diego was one of the wisest decisions I’ve ever made. I credit my fellow IABC members with getting me short-listed for interviews that led to full-time employment, as well as offering moral support and sound advice when I most needed it.

I am continually amazed at the esprit de corps among professional communicators at IABC. Whether you attend a lunch-and-learn seminar or social event, watch a timely webinar, ask a question on IABC’s new online Hub or participate in the World Conference, there are so many opportunities to leverage IABC’s broad, global member base and grow your community. And if you’re facing a new communications challenge or toying with the idea of going solo, chances are there is someone in our local community who has been there, too, and is willing to help. You don’t have to go it alone.

It is truly the people who make IABC an exceptional network and resource for communicators in all fields and across multiple industries. I’m excited to introduce you to the 2018-2019 IABC/San Diego Board of Directors. This year’s board comprises a remarkable group of communicators in San Diego who are committed to making our chapter a vibrant resource for career growth, professional development, networking and mentorship – and we also like to have fun!

Speaking of fun, I invite you to join us for our Summer Social on August 22. You’ll have the opportunity to meet the incoming board and to network with local communicators at The Wine Pub on Shelter Island. Your ticket includes appetizers, and your first drink is covered, thanks to our event sponsor Intesa Communications.

For more information about IABC/San Diego, access to tools and resources, or to register for upcoming events, visit sandiego.iabc.com. And if you’re inspired to join our award-winning board, please don’t hesitate to contact me to learn more about our current openings.

Thank you for being part of our community … and I hope to see you soon!
