The 2015-2016 IABC/San Diego Board of Directors met last month to discuss the upcoming year. Our goal was to devise a strategic plan that supports the overall purpose of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC): to connect our global alliance of over 12,000 communicators to improve our professional abilities, progress in our careers, share information and resources, set standards for excellence, build our credibility in the business world, and of course, have fun!
In order to carry out this purpose, IABC/San Diego’s plan for the next year is to focus on delivering leading edge communications, host consistent events, spotlight our talented membership, highlight our differentiators as an organization and engage more business communicators in our activities. By focusing on these areas, we are confident that the Chapter will continue to support our community of business communication professionals with innovative thinking, shared best practices, in-depth learning and career guidance … and ultimately, maintain our position as San Diego’s premier communications resource.
I am excited to announce two great events happening this month. On Wednesday, September 23, join us for a Naval Air Station North Island Squadron tour and Public Affairs presentation. You will learn the value and impact of the U.S. Navy’s public affairs mission from the perspective of the public affair’s Office of Commander, Naval Aviation Pacific—the birthplace of Naval aviation. Please RSVP by September 17 to reserve your spot.
Also, get to know myself and other local communicators at our Dine-Around on September 24, which coincides with San Diego Restaurant Week. We’ve selected two of San Diego’s tastiest restaurants in La Jolla and Uptown/Bankers Hill. Both restaurants are featuring special prix fixe menus and attendees will pay for their own meal. Sign up today – we look forward to meeting you!
As always, your feedback is much appreciated. Please let me know of any ideas you have for events, if you would like to present at an event or if you would like to be spotlighted in one of our member profiles—even if you’ve been spotlighted before but need an updated profile, we are happy to do that too! Feel free to email me directly at any time at firstname.lastname@example.org.
