2014 IABC Pacific Plains Silver Quill Awards Winners Announced,

Winners Span Broad Section of Midwest, Western U.S. & Hawaii

November 25, 2014, Minneapolis – The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Pacific Plains Region today announced 13 submissions earned Silver Quill Awards, recognizing public relations work that exceeded expectations, demonstrated outstanding creativity, and furthered organizational goals.

“These programs represent the best communication work done in a region that stretches across 19 states from Wisconsin to Hawaii,” said Cynthia Schmieg, IABC Pacific Plains Silver Quill Co-Chair. “We are pleased to recognize the programs and practitioners that meet a high threshold of performance. The awards recognize work that exceeds professional standards for effective strategic and creative work.”

Professionals from a broad range of disciplines entered the awards competition, ranging from business communication, public relations, graphic design, marketing and related fields. Management and skill categories involve internal and external communication, community relations, branding, social media, advertising, media relations, publications, crisis communication and more.

“A Silver Quill is both an honor for recipients and an opportunity to bring out our best work,” said Paul Omodt, co-chair of the IABC Pacific Plains Silver Quill  Awards Program. “All entrants are able to get input from trained judges who provide written feedback.”

Each entry included a written work plan as well as a sample of the work product so judges could have an understanding of the issue the plan addressed, the solution it proposed, and the outcome. Silver Quill submissions may also be entered into IABC’s international awards competition, Gold Quill.

Best of Show

Recognized as the Pacific Plains Region Silver Quill Awards ‘Best of Show’ was San Diego-based KCD PR, led by Kevin Dinino, for their media relations work on behalf of client The Advisor Center.  KCD PR’s program helped The Advisor Center, a relatively new company, gain brand awareness and thought leadership in the competitive arena of financial advisor recruitment.

“The judges recognized KCD PR’s thoughtful approach to the client’s challenges and how they applied sound public and media relations approaches to meet those challenges,” Omodt said. “The work represents the best in our region this year.”
