Cason Lane is named IABC/San Diego 2014 Communicator of the Year

SAN DIEGO (April 23, 2014) – The San Diego chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has named Cason Lane, ABC, principal of Cason Lane Strategic Communications, its Communicator of the Year (COTY). In its inaugural year, the COTY award recognizes one greater San Diego area-based leader who demonstrates strategic excellence in communication.

“We are honored to recognize Cason with the first-ever IABC/San Diego COTY award. He serves as an example to all communicators through his quality of work and contributions to the profession,” said Kate Hardman, ABC, president of IABC/San Diego. “Cason’s talent, leadership and commitment to the field make him a worthy recipient of this prestigious award.”

Lane’s experience in internal and external communications spans nearly 20 years. Since 2007, he has served as principal of Cason Lane Strategic Communications, where he and his team provide strategic planning, writing and other communications services to drive business results. Before starting his own firm, he spent eight years managing corporate communications at Jack in the Box. He also managed patient communications at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic in Houston; worked in public information at Houston Communication College System; and was a journalist in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

Lane is an accredited member of IABC, which places him in the top 10 percent of professional communicators worldwide.

“For 17 years I’ve been involved with IABC, and I honestly can’t imagine my career without it,” Lane said. “I feel so honored to be recognized by my colleagues in this organization, who have played such a critical role in my personal and professional development.”

Lane’s work has earned more than 20 awards from IABC, the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals and the Public Relations Society of America. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Texas Christian University.

COTY nominations were submitted by their peers and entries were evaluated using the following criteria: demonstrates strong leadership, management and communication skills; develops communication strategies that contribute to the ongoing success of the organization; uses effective internal and external communications; communicates to diverse audiences; exemplifies the role of leader in communication.
