We are thrilled to announce that Sarah Bilyeu is the 2021 IABC/San Diego Communicator of the Year (COTY).

In her role as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Community Relations at San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU), Sarah demonstrates the key communication principles that define strategic and effective leaders. She is recognized for her exceptional leadership style and passion for her work. Her extensive background in internal and external communications has directly contributed to the success of SDCCU’s business and its community relations programs.  

The IABC/San Diego COTY Award recognizes a greater San Diego leader who demonstrates strategic excellence in communication and serves as an outstanding example to others through quality of work and contributions to the communications profession.

Sarah has a long history with IABC having served as President of the San Diego chapter in 2016-2017 as well as other board positions. She joins a list of outstanding IABC/San Diego COTY award winners including Kate Griffin – 2020, Mike Godfrey – 2019, Margie Newman – 2018, Lisa Hunter – 2017, Anna Davison – 2016, Marilyn Olson – 2015 and Cason Lane – 2014.

Join us for a virtual celebration on May 27, including a fireside chat and interactive Q&A with 2021 COTY award winner, Sarah Bilyeu. Informal networking begins at 4:45 p.m., and the program runs from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.

About Sarah Bilyeu

Sarah Bilyeu is Senior Vice President of Business Development and Community Relations at San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), where she is responsible for defining and implementing the organization’s overall community relations, public relations and business development strategy. This includes building strategic relationships with local companies, community organizations and media to elevate brand awareness throughout Southern California. Bilyeu was recognized by the San Diego Metro Magazine with a 40 Under 40 award in 2017 and her work has been recognized with many accolades, including: 2020 Hermes Creative Award for SDCCU OC Marathon, 2019 Community Business Leader Award by OC LGBT Pride, Spirit of Stonewall Award by San Diego LGBT Pride, and MarCom, Stevie and MAC (Marketing Association of Credit Unions) awards for SDCCU Stuff the Bus, an annual campaign that provides school supplies for students in need. In 2015, she was acknowledged with SDCCU’s Feel the Teal Award, a top honor in the credit union given to one employee each year. She is proud to work for an organization that is focused on helping people and giving back. In 2013, Bilyeu was recognized with an IABC Gold Quill for Brand Advertising Marketing Campaign, Internal Communications Strategy. Bilyeu holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Political Science from SDSU and an MBA in Marketing from Ashford University.
