Lisa Hunter named IABC/San Diego 2017 Communicator of the Year

The San Diego chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) has named Lisa Hunter, Lead Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton, its 2017 Communicator of the Year (COTY). The COTY Award recognizes one greater San Diego area-based leader who demonstrates strategic excellence in communication.

“On behalf of IABC-San Diego, we are thrilled to present  Lisa Hunter as the 2017 Communicator of the Year,” said IABC-San Diego President Anna Davison. “The COTY award is one of the highest honors given in our industry. As a longtime IABC member, and Accredited Business Communicator (ABC), we know first-hand that Lisa is a passionate and talented leader and communicator—she is highly deserving of this honor.”

Hunter is a lead associate with Booz Allen Hamilton, where she has provided strategic communications and project management services to various government organizations for more than 11 years. She also leads Booz Allen’s communications community in San Diego, helping practitioners incorporate best practices and identify opportunities to address clients’ communication challenges.

“I am honored and humbled to receive this award, especially among so many talented communications professionals in San Diego,” said Hunter. “I am so appreciative of IABC for being such a great resource for me to expand my professional network and continue to learn and grow in the communications field, and in my career.”

Hunter serves as president of the San Diego chapter of Women in Defense, which supports the advancement of women in national security, and she is on the board of the San Diego Diplomacy Council, which connects global leaders with San Diegans to address common challenges. In addition to being an ABC, Hunter is a Change Management Advanced Practitioner (CMAP) and a Project Management Professional (PMP). She received a bachelor’s in political science from UCLA and a master’s in international management from Thunderbird.

Hunter will be recognized in a special celebration, sponsored by Booz Allen Hamilton, on May 24, 2017 at Karl Strauss Brewery Company in Sorrento Valley. Attendees of the event, Learn from IABC/San Diego’s 2017 Communicator of the Year, will celebrate Hunter and learn more about her many accomplishments and what led her to become the 2017 IABC-San Diego COTY. COTY nominations were submitted by their peers and entries were evaluated using the following criteria: demonstrating strong leadership, management, and communication skills; developing communication strategies that contribute to the ongoing success of the organization; using effective internal and external communications; communicating to diverse audiences; exemplifying the role of leader in communication.
